Homework: AlphaGo

I know what you're thinking...OH nOoOoO, HoMeWOrK?!

Don't worry, because this homework is FUN!

Your homework is to watch a movie tonight. Specifically, AlphaGo - The Movie.

It's an award-winning documentary that follows a team of researchers that worked to develop an AI that could play the game Go, and then faced that AI against the world's best Go player. It's not particularly long either (1.5 hours).

Here's the full description:

With more board configurations than there are atoms in the universe, the ancient Chinese game of Go has long been considered a grand challenge for artificial intelligence. On March 9, 2016, the worlds of Go and artificial intelligence collided in South Korea for an extraordinary best-of-five-game competition, coined The DeepMind Challenge Match. Hundreds of millions of people around the world watched as a legendary Go master took on an unproven AI challenger for the first time in history.

It's important to note that the AI in this documentary is not a Large Language Model. But I still think it's worthwhile watching, because it gets you into the mindset of thinking about questions surrounding AI and its opportunities, limitations, and impacts.

Alright, that's enough from me. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the show!
